Dental Crowns

If you have a decayed or damaged tooth, a dental crown may be the best way to restore your smile. Dental crowns are designed to protect your remaining tooth enamel and prevent further complications. They are custom-made to fit over your existing tooth and cover it all the way down to the gumline, essentially replacing your tooth structure. Have a damaged tooth in Holden? What Are Dental Crowns?

A dental crown is a dental prosthesis that is designed to completely replace your tooth. It’s shaped just like a natural tooth and the material is chosen to match the color of your surrounding teeth perfectly. During treatment, your enamel is trimmed to make room for the crown, which is then permanently attached to the tooth. Crowns cover damaged teeth all the way down to your gum line. This, in turn, protects your tooth structure from further damage or decay, and it also restores the shape and appearance of your smile.

Why Would I Need a Dental Crown?

Dental crowns are commonly used to repair decayed teeth if they are too damaged for treatment with a dental filling, or to restore teeth that have been broken or cracked by dental trauma. They are also used to cover and protect teeth that have recently been treated with root canal therapy. In some cases, crowns may even be used for cosmetic purposes. For example, a crown can be used to cover up a tooth that is unable to be treated with a veneer or dental bonding.

What Can I Expect From the Crown Placement Process?

Placing a crown usually takes two appointments over a period of 2-3 weeks. At your first visit, your tooth will be prepared for the crown. Our Holden dentist will numb the area, then remove any damaged or decayed enamel from your tooth and sculpt it into a strong, stable platform for the crown.

Then, he will take an impression of your tooth. Your impressions will be sent to a trusted lab where your custom crown will be built. Dr. Khanani will create a temporary crown for you to wear in the meantime. Once your crown arrives at our office, you will come in for your final appointment. Dr. Khanani will check the crown to make sure it looks and feels perfect, and make minor adjustments, if necessary. Then, the crown will be permanently attached to your tooth with special dental cement. You’ll leave our office with a beautiful, natural-looking replacement.

Am I a Good Candidate for Dental Crowns?

If you have a tooth that has a large cavity, a filling that may be failing, or if you have recently suffered an oral injury, a dental crown may be the best way to restore and preserve your tooth. Contact Khanani Family Dental for an appointment today.

I want to change the perception of dentistry by building relationships based on trust.

So happy that Dr. Waterfall chose Dr. Khanani to take over the practice when he retired. Dr. Khanani is a top-notch dentist with an old world bedside manner. He always shows the utmost concern for a patient’s comfort and called me in the evening after getting a crown put in last winter and after an emergency visit recently to repair a broken tooth  I would highly recommend Dr. Khanani and his friendly and caring staff. If you are looking for a new dentist you won’t find a better one in the area!

"Dr. Khanani recently fixed a cavity for me and the whole experience was a breeze.  Upon completing the work Dr. Khanani insisted that I call if I have any questions or concerns.  He even followed up with a phone call and text message that evening to make sure that I was pain free.  I can tell that Dr. Khanani is very passionate about his work and I would highly recommend Khanani Family Dental."
