Why Do Dental Implants Need Restoration?

Dental implants need to be restored after the initial surgical placement process. The implant itself is a screw-shaped piece of titanium that’s implanted directly into your gums and jaw tissue, and functions as an artificial tooth root. After the implant heals, it still needs to be restored with a dental crown or another implant-supported restoration.

At Khanani Family Dental, we can handle both the placement of dental implants and dental implant restorations under the same roof. After your implant is placed, you’ll come back to our office for several appointments over a period of 3-6 months to have your implant restoration built.

Dental implants may also need restoration if the existing implant-supported restoration has worn-out or is broken. Dental implants are very durable, and titanium implants usually last at least 30 years, and often can be kept for the rest of a patient’s life.

However, the crown or other restoration used to replace your missing teeth will not be quite as durable. Since this restoration will be exposed to the day-to-day wear and tear of chewing and biting, it may wear out within 10-20 years.

If this happens, a Holden dentist like Dr. Salman Khanani can simply remove the old restoration and create a new dental implant restoration, replacing the worn-down prosthetic with a brand-new, custom-fitted crown.

How long does it take to restore an existing implant?

The process of restoring an implant after it’s initially placed usually takes up to 3-6 months or longer, because the implant must heal and bond with your bone tissue before it can be restored.

However, if you already have a dental implant, but your old crown or restoration was damaged or has worn out, the process of dental implant restoration is much faster.

You can usually get a new implant restoration within 2-3 weeks. Dr. Khanani will work with you to take measurements and impressions of your teeth and your implant, and then send this information to a dental lab where a new implant restoration will be crafted.

Then, you’ll come back for another appointment to have the crown checked. If everything looks good, your dental implant restoration will be attached to your implant permanently, and you’ll be sent home.

How Long Does it take to recover?

The process of getting a dental implant restoration is completely non-invasive, and it does not involve any surgery. That means there is no downtime after your treatment. You do not have to follow any special recovery instructions, and you can get back to your day-to-day routine immediately.

I want to change the perception of dentistry by building relationships based on trust.

So happy that Dr. Waterfall chose Dr. Khanani to take over the practice when he retired. Dr. Khanani is a top-notch dentist with an old world bedside manner. He always shows the utmost concern for a patient’s comfort and called me in the evening after getting a crown put in last winter and after an emergency visit recently to repair a broken tooth  I would highly recommend Dr. Khanani and his friendly and caring staff. If you are looking for a new dentist you won’t find a better one in the area!

"Dr. Khanani recently fixed a cavity for me and the whole experience was a breeze.  Upon completing the work Dr. Khanani insisted that I call if I have any questions or concerns.  He even followed up with a phone call and text message that evening to make sure that I was pain free.  I can tell that Dr. Khanani is very passionate about his work and I would highly recommend Khanani Family Dental."
