Gum disease affects nearly half of American adults. If you notice blood when you brush or floss, puffy gums, or a receding gum line, these are all symptoms of gum disease. If left untreated, this condition can cause serious, irreversible damage to your teeth and gums, resulting in premature tooth loss. Call us today to schedule an appointment if you suspect that you are suffering from periodontal disease.
Gum disease affects nearly half of all American adults
The initial stage of gum disease causes no permanent harm, but failure to get treatment can result in irreversible damage
Proper at-home oral hygiene is essential for preventing & reversing gum disease
We offer a wide variety of periodontal therapy treatments to help you restore your oral health
Gingivitis specifically refers to the initial stage of gum disease. This stage causes inflammation and symptoms like gum discoloration and bleeding, but does not cause irreversible harm. With proper care from Dr. Khanani and good at-home oral care, gingivitis can be completely eliminated. However, if you do not get help in time, the disease may progress and cause irreversible damage to your teeth and gums.
During the later stages of gum disease, the condition can be halted by periodontal care, but it will never be possible to completely eliminate the disease. This is why it’s so important to seek periodontal therapy right away if you believe you have gum disease.
Periodontal care usually begins with a treatment called “scaling and root planing” (also known as a deep cleaning). This treatment is usually performed on one half of your mouth at a time, so the entire process takes two appointments at Khanani Family Dental. Dr. Khanani will use special dental tools to remove plaque and tartar from between your teeth and gums, and smooth out the roots of your teeth where bacteria may collect. This is usually accompanied by an antibiotic treatment.
Together, these periodontal therapies can halt or reverse most cases of minor-to-moderate gum disease. However, additional surgical treatments like gum grafting may be needed to restore your smile if you have a more advanced case of gum disease. – Dr. Khanani
So happy that Dr. Waterfall chose Dr. Khanani to take over the practice when he retired. Dr. Khanani is a top-notch dentist with an old world bedside manner. He always shows the utmost concern for a patient’s comfort and called me in the evening after getting a crown put in last winter and after an emergency visit recently to repair a broken tooth I would highly recommend Dr. Khanani and his friendly and caring staff. If you are looking for a new dentist you won’t find a better one in the area!
"Dr. Khanani recently fixed a cavity for me and the whole experience was a breeze. Upon completing the work Dr. Khanani insisted that I call if I have any questions or concerns. He even followed up with a phone call and text message that evening to make sure that I was pain free. I can tell that Dr. Khanani is very passionate about his work and I would highly recommend Khanani Family Dental."
