Preventive Dentistry

Routine preventive dental appointments are critical to maintaining optimal dental health. Even with proper oral hygiene at home, plaque and bacteria can still build up in your mouth between your teeth and gums. At Khanani Family Dental, our Holden dentists focus on preventive care to keep your smile happy, healthy, and free from common dental health issues. Do I Need a Fluoride Treatment?

Fluoride treatments are used to strengthen tooth enamel and help prevent decay, which means that any patient can benefit from this painless, non-invasive treatment. Fluoride has the unique ability to help remineralize teeth by attracting calcium and phosphorous to their surface. This helps reverse and halt the damage of minor decay and prevents cavities from fully forming. Fluoride treatments can be applied in just a few minutes after a cleaning.

How Do Dental Sealants Prevent Cavities?

Sealants use a special type of dental resin to protect your teeth from cavities. The resin is applied in liquid form to your back teeth after a cleaning, and it is then is hardened with a blue UV light. This creates a strong, clear plastic barrier that prevents your teeth from coming in contact with bacteria, acid, and food particles. In turn, this prevents cavities.

What Is Periodontal Care?

Periodontal care refers to procedures used to treat gum (periodontal) disease. The most common treatment for gum disease is called “scaling and root planing” (also known as a deep cleaning). This treatment involves using a variety of special dental tools to remove plaque and tartar from between your teeth and gums. The roots of your teeth, where bacteria tend to collect, will also be smoothed out to prevent further bacteria buildup. Usually, scaling and root planing is also accompanied with antibiotic treatment to help destroy any remaining bacteria.

For more extensive cases of gum disease, it may be necessary to perform surgical intervention like gum grafting. Gum grafting is used to take healthy tissue from an area such as the roof of the mouth, and surgically attach it to the gums to repair them after they have been damaged by advanced gum disease. This helps restore and protect your teeth.

What Happens During an Oral Cancer Screening?

Oral cancer screenings are part of every routine appointment at Khanani Family Dental. Dr. Khanani will use intraoral cameras to look at your mouth and examine your oral tissues for lesions, discolorations, and other irregularities which indicate an issue. In the rare event that we notice an issue that may indicate cancer, this ensures that you get the help you need right away.

I want to change the perception of dentistry by building relationships based on trust.

Janet A.

So happy that Dr. Waterfall chose Dr. Khanani to take over the practice when he retired. Dr. Khanani is a top-notch dentist with an old world bedside manner. He always shows the utmost concern for a patient’s comfort and called me in the evening after getting a crown put in last winter and after an emergency visit recently to repair a broken tooth  I would highly recommend Dr. Khanani and his friendly and caring staff. If you are looking for a new dentist you won’t find a better one in the area!

"Dr. Khanani recently fixed a cavity for me and the whole experience was a breeze.  Upon completing the work Dr. Khanani insisted that I call if I have any questions or concerns.  He even followed up with a phone call and text message that evening to make sure that I was pain free.  I can tell that Dr. Khanani is very passionate about his work and I would highly recommend Khanani Family Dental."
