Dental Bridges

How does a dental bridge work?

A traditional bridge is the standard bridge that most people receive. We place two dental crowns on your abutment teeth that are adjacent to the gap. Attached to these crowns, a pontic tooth is suspended in the gums which fills in the gap.

A cantilever bridge is used when there is only one tooth next to the gap. Instead of placing two dental crowns, one dental crown anchors the bridge. Attached to the crown is one pontic tooth that fills in the gap. This is most suitable for the rear molars.

A Maryland bridge is a bridge that uses two teeth to anchor it in place. However, instead of placing dental crowns over your abutment teeth, we suspend a pontic tooth that has attached wings made of metal or porcelain that extend behind the abutment teeth and are bonded in place.

An implant-supported bridge is just like a traditional dental bridge, except the two abutment teeth are replaced with dental implants. Crowns are attached to dental implants and a pontic tooth is attached in between.
