How does a dental bridge work?

The usual treatment for most people is a traditional bridge, where two dental crowns are placed on the teeth next to the gap, with a pontic tooth attached to fill in the space.

A cantilever bridge is used when there is only one tooth next to a gap, instead of two dental crowns. This type of bridge uses a single dental crown to anchor the bridge, with a pontic tooth attached to fill the gap. Cantilever bridges are commonly recommended for rear molars.

A Maryland bridge is a type of dental bridge that is anchored by two teeth without the use of dental crowns. Instead, a pontic tooth with metal or porcelain wings is affixed and bonded to the abutment teeth.

An implant-supported bridge functions similarly to a traditional dental bridge, but it uses dental implants rather than natural abutment teeth. The implants have crowns attached to them, with a pontic tooth in the center.
