CEREC, short for CEramic REConstruction, is a cutting-edge dental technology that uses a computerized milling machine to create porcelain dental crowns in just minutes. This method, known as CAD/CAM (Computer-Aided Design and Manufacturing), allows for fast and efficient crown production.

Taking care of CEREC crowns is similar to caring for traditional dental crowns. It is essential to brush and floss regularly to remove food particles, prevent plaque buildup, and avoid tooth decay. Brush your teeth twice a day for at least 2 minutes with a soft-bristle toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste, holding the brush at a 45-degree angle. Remember to floss daily and brush your tongue to eliminate bacteria.

The American Dental Association (ADA) recommends visiting the dentist every 6 months for a cleaning and checkup to remove stains and plaque, detect cavities or gum disease early, and assess the condition of your crowns. If any problems are identified, your crowns may require repair or replacement.

To maintain the appearance of your crowns, refrain from smoking, use a straw when drinking, and limit consumption of staining foods and beverages such as tea, coffee, and red wine. To prevent damage, wear a nightguard if you grind your teeth, avoid using your teeth as tools, and refrain from chewing on hard objects like ice, nuts, or hard candy.

The coverage for CEREC crowns can vary based on the reason for the crown, your insurance type, and the level of coverage. Some dental plans may cover CEREC crowns while others may not, and the amount covered can also vary.

Typically, insurance will only cover CEREC crowns if they are deemed medically necessary, such as for a damaged or decayed tooth. If the crown is for purely cosmetic reasons, it is unlikely to be covered. To determine what your insurance will cover, it is recommended to contact your provider directly.
